History of High Language School “Akad.Liudmil Stoyanov”
Language School “Akad.Liudmil Stoyanov” was established as an independent educational institution during the school year 1984-1985. In the beginning there were 13 classes with a total number of 325 students. Nowadays there are taught over 800 students in 30 classes in English, German and French, as well as IT as specific profiles. The first Language School’s principal was Boris Voynov. In 1986 Veselin Kostadinov was appointed to that position, since 2005 the headmaster of the secondary school has been Tinka Popova. The first teachers of the Language School were: Elena Bikova, Sofiya Kitanova, Veska Lisiiska, Katuisha Karamfilova, Krasimira Topouzova, Milka Angelova (English), Spasiya Angelova, Elka Todorova, Lilyana Rizova, Ivan Ivanov, Latinka Shapkareva, Rozalina Naidenska, Elena Demireva, Maya Martzenkova (French), Magdalena Bekyarova (German). Detelina Logofetova taught Geography in English, Malina Popnikolova taught Chemistry in English; Luibomir Bairaktarov - Chemistry in French, Dobrinka Mihova- Biology in French. The first Literature and Bulgarian Language teachers were Margarita Shandarova and Krasimira Katzarska. Rumana Stoyanova taught Russian, Veneta Tumbeva and Stamen Chobanov- mathematics; Milka Kulina- Physics, Vasilka Kalpachka - History; Todor Nedin- Philosophy; Kitan Yanev-Geography; Veselina Dimova- Fine Arts; Lazar Topalov- Physical Education and Sports; Ivan Mihailov- Military Training. Veska Lisiiska executed the function of the Deputy and Vasko Vasilev assumed this position in 1986. After them Snezhana Ubenova, Rumyana Stoyanova, Ivanka Ilieva-Chehleva, Vulko Tzekovski, Milena Samardjieva, Cvetana Boshova and Bilyana Paskaleva have been appointed to this position. On the 22nd, May 1987 Language School- Blagoevgrad received its name and patron - the notable Bulgarian writer and scholar – academician Liudmil Stoyanov. During the school year 1987-88 the number of classes grew up to 21 and the number of students became 518. During the school year 1988-89 the number of classes grew up to 22 and the number of students became 586.Today, there are over 800 students in 30 classes. Among the most important events in the history of the Language School are the anniversaries- the 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th (which was celebrated in 2009). Over the past years many of the students of the Secondary school have evinced successfully and the school proved to be one of the best Language schools in Bulgaria. From the beginning of the School the students Radoslav Temelkov, Yanko Bundov, Biser Paskalev and Snezhana Slancheva evinced successfully in the mathematical and mathematical linguistics competitions - they won two second and two third awards. The team as a whole finished eight among 52 teams from the entire county. At a national level in Olympiads in Chemistry, Biology, Literature, Physics, and other disciplines there have often been classified students of the Language School ”Akad. L.Stoyanov”- Blagoevgrad. Aleksandur Georgiev, Rilko Dinev and Petya Kirova received excellent grades in the republican round of the Olympiad in Chemistry which ensured them places in university. Stanislav Petrov, Stefan Simonski, Danail Danailov and Desislava Kalchunkova also performed convincingly. As a whole the school became second in 1993. Konstantin Stoev won the golden medal in the international mathematical linguistics competition and Yordan Dinov and Aleksandra Skenderska won silver medals. In 1993 Silviya Staykova, from the preparatory class “V” was classified to take part in a competition of the French magazine “La Bougine” for finishing a story. She was among the first ten classified from 15 000 participants. During the same year, the competition “Kangorous” took place in the Language School, to which our school was host. Our student Nadya Nikolova won the first place which ensured her a participation in a summer seminar in Paris. Stefan Simonski from 11th “A” grade and Perun Malinov from 10th“A” class took part in the Olympiad in Biology. In 2006 Trayana Stankova received excellent grade in the National Olympiad in Biology and Slavcho Kolevichin, Traycho Georgiev and Alexandur Ganev won the first place in the National Youth Session Computer Technologies in the education for the environment. In 1995 Language school “Akad. L. Stoyanov” was host to the Olympiad in English, which was organized by Oxford-centre and the Ministry of Education. Our students form the English classes performed very well. One of the first manifestations of notable students of the Language school is the participation of Maria Divisieva, Kostadin Sirleshtov and Vesela Yaneva in the practical scientific conference in the Aprilov`s Secondary school in Gabrovo, where they won high positions. In 1997 Miroslav Madjov from 9th“A” grade won the first prize in the National competition “We live in Botev`s land” in Vratza and after him Velichka Gulubova won it. During the same year Aleksandur Stefanov performed excellently with 5.90 in the Olympiad in Russian and was rewarded by the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria. During 1997-98 students from 9th A was classified. With the assistance of their Literature teacher Krasimira Katzarska, students began to publish the school newspaper “Eccentric”. Gradually, students not only from the 9th grade but also from the whole school started to participate in this action. During the last year the publication of the newspaper was renovated after a short suspension. The participation of the Language School students in the national round of the Olympiad in Bulgarian language and Literature has been a traditional event. Since 1990 Mihaela Kaisheva, Margret Burzachka, Kostadinka Popmihailova, Boryana Avramova, Magdalena Tireva, Kostadin Sirleshtov, Atanas Bangachev, Mariya Divizieva, Desislava Evtimova, Liliya Kostova and Marya Asiova who are Krasimira Katzarska`s students have preformed very well. In 1999 Ani Avramova reached this round. In 2001 Daniela Sengelieva manifested in the Olympiad. In 2008 Petya Georgieva, Borislava Manova, Vyara Markova and Strahila Royachka who are Snezhana Ubenova`s students classed for the national round. They were the only students from the Blagoevgrad region who were classed that year. Strahila Royachka has published two books. Class 2005 scored the remarkable number of 63 national awards in literature- 3 for poetry, 49 for essay writing, 6 for story writing, 3 for publications and 2 for research activity. Their teacher Krasimira Katzarska was especially happy because of the fact that 22 of these awards were 1st, 15- 2nd, 24- 3rd, and others - 16. As a remarkable achievement can be pointed the research activity of Kristina Popova (12th D) and Kostadin Popov (12th E), who proved the ability of our students to stand next to university lecturers from the University of Shumen and other institutions of higher education. Their research would be published in the collections of scholar conferences about Dimitur Dimov and Geo Milev (together with the research of their teacher).We must surely draw attention to the name of the most distinguished student of class 2005 –Mariya Asiova (12th D), who received five 1st awards, one 2nd award, one 3rd award and 2 certificats during the five- year course of education in the Language School in Blagoevgrad. To this prizes there can be added her polygamous publications in different collections, magazines, almanacs, journals. Krasimira Katzarska`s students have been writing in “Rodna Rech”, in the almanacs “Struma” and “Irin Pirin”, in “Az Buki”, ”Uchitelsko Delo”, “Slovoto Dnes”, “Puls”, “RIK”, “Vestnik za Jenata”, “Misul”, etc. Velina Zlatkova (12th A), Tzvetanka Hristova (12th D), Stefan Novoselski (12th E) have five awards each; Elena Matolova (12th B), Tanya Hadzhieva (12th V), Valeriya Karamfilova, Kristina Popova (12th D) have four awards each. Generally, the students with prizes are 46. The names of the poets Valeriya Karamfilova (12th D) and Angelina Laskova (12th A) are worth of note, because they fittingly supported the felicity of phrase in different forums. Velina Zlatkova, Emanuela Kozhuhova and Petur Astinov (12th A) distinguished themselves as good journalists, and Marya Asiova, Tzvetanka Hristova (12th D), Tanya Hadzhieva (12th E) and Stefan Novoselski (12th E) - as good storytellers. Velina Zlatkova, Emanuela Kozhuhova and Raina Lagadinova (12th A), Vyara Rizova and Elena Matolova (12th B), Tanya Hadzhieva (12th V), Venera Fileva, Darina Beneva and Savina Lozanska (12th G) Boyan Vakareev, Kristina Andonova and Marya Asiova (12th D) and Georgi Spasov (12th E), who are first-prize winners, established themselves as prolific essayists. The names of the other winners are: Blagoy Kitanov, Borislav Karadzhov, Verginiya Kusheva, Nadya Yanakieva, Ralitza Kobakova, Simeon Simeonev, Tzvetelina Mitova, Iudai Bairaktarov (12th A); Veronika Gulubova, Mariya Kuzmeva, Nadya Birova and Stela sokolova (12th B); Blagoy Ichov, Danail Radonov and Mariya Shopova (12th V); Boris Nikolov, Yoana Stoimenova and Liliya Georgieva (12th G); Bistra Manoilova, Valentina Boneva, Zlatina Mavrodieva, Iliyan Shushorov, Pavlina Boneva (12th D); Kirilka Yaneva and Nadezhda Veleva (12th E). Class 2005 also performed great at the Admission Examinations. Among the 4000 candidates and the 30 excellent grades in the precursory examinations in the South-Western University, 14 of the excellent grades were of our students and 46 of the grades of our graduates were very good. Boris Nikolov (12th G) led a broadcast on the TV channel OKO, and after that he started work in Nova Television. The present students of Krasimira Katzarska also continue to bring literature awards. Martina Vezenkova (12th G) became the Laureate of “1000 Scholarships” competition and Temenuzhka Arabadzhieva (11th D) - of “For Our Bread” competition. Up to now, the 1st prizes have been 15, the 2nd – 21, the 3rd – 21 and others - 35. The leading place is for Ekaterina Borisova (11th B) – she has 15 national awards – three 1st and two 3rd- for poetry, two 1st, one 2nd and 6 orders – for essay-writing and one 1st-for story-writing. She also became the prize winner of the Board of Education and of the ”Rodna Rech” magazine for 2007. There have been a great number of publications in these magazines, in almanacs and journals from students of the previous class taught by Krasimira Katzarska. Right after E. Borisova stays Akseniya Yaneva (11th E) with her 10 awards: three 1st, one 2nd, one 3rd, and an order for an essay, one 1st and one 2nd- for stories, one 1st and one 3rd - for poetry. Liliya Stoeva (12th B) has six awards: one 1st for an essay, three 2nd and an order- for poetry and an order -for a story. Veronika Kaitazova (11th E) has 5 awards: one 2nd and one 3rd for essays, one 3rd and orders for a research for her family descent. Desislava Ovnarska (11th D) has the same number of awards: two 2nd and one order for essays, one 3rd – for poetry and one order for her research. Martina Vezenkova (11th G) has 4 awards: two 1st- for a story and research and orders – for an essay and research of her family descent. Three national awards have Temenuzhka Arabajieva (11th D): two 1st – for essay and one 3rd- for research; Kirila Borisova (11th D) - 1st for a story, 1st and 2nd for essays; Martin Milkov- one 1st and two 3rd – for essay; Petya Grozdarska- 2nd for essay and orders for research. Among the prize winners are also: Abidin Mangov (11th A- with one 1st and one 2nd for an essay), Tzveta Ryahova (11th G) - for a story, Aleksandra Hristova and Renita Pavlova (11th G) -for research. The students, who have two awards each, are: Rafie Drencheva (11th A)-one 2nd and an order-for an essay, Snezhana Angelova (11th A) - one 2nd and an order-for an essay, Nina Angelova (11th B)- 2nd and 3rd for essays, Silvana Yankova (11th V) - 2nd and 3rd for essays, Mariya Apostolova (11th V) – 2nd and 3rd for essays, Tanya Stoyanova- 2nd and 3rd for research, Slavena Stambolova(11th G) – 2nd for a story and 3rd for an essay, Gergana Stoyanova (11th D) – 3rd for a story and one certificate for research, Snezhanka Ilieva (11 a) – 3rd for essay and a certificate for a story, Katya Yankova (11th E) -3rd and Insignia of honor for essay. Other students with national awards are: Bilyana Mircheva, Ivelina Efiang and Marina Ruskova (12th A); Valentin Kovachev, Velichka Dimitrova, Daniel Liubomirov, Dimitur Palanski, Elitza Zaharieva, Jivka Popatanasova, Magdalena Frangova, Nina Shopska (11th B); Mila Stoyanova, Mihaela Oshinova, Monika Velinova, Tereza Biserina and Tzvetelina Vangelova (11th V); Mariya Mincheva and Rumyana Puneva (11th G); Marina Yaneva, Srebrina Georgieva, and Hristina Borisheva (11th D)Magdalena Kitanova, Monika Tatarska and Nadezhda Dimitrova (11th E).These students also have many publications. Gergana Stoyanova also got an excellent mark on the second round in the Olympiad in Literature. We are pleased to say, that Lliya Shopova (8th D), who is one of Krasimira Katzarska`s students, classified 3rd with her essay. Antoniya Yakimova (8th D) and Niya Nikolova (8th E) are among the active writers. Daniel Liubomirov (11th B), Mirena Ivanova, Yordan Chimev and Nikola Sidjimov led a TV broadcast about the European Union on “Pirin” channel. Daniel has been leading a youth show of radio “Blagoevgrad” for years. Velichka Dimitrova and Magdalena Frangova’s research (11th B), Velichka Ikonomova, Veronika Kaitazova and Martina Vezenkova (11th G) and Gergana Stoyanova (11th D) were met with great interest at the Round Table, which was organized by the History museum, and its theme was: “The family history- a part of our cultural heritage”. Most of the radio and television participations of our students have been documented. In 2006 a student from 12th A class - Antonia Seizova, with the help of her teacher Lidiya Boykova published her own book with essays. Antonia won several awards for her participations in literature contests and she has publications in different editions. Kristina Gazieva, who was also from class 2006, got the only one complete excellent grade for the entrance examination on Journalism for her essay. It is already a convention for the students of the same teacher to publish their works in different editions such as “Gimnazist”, “Az Buki”, in the rubric “Mlada Muza” of the “Trud” newspaper, the “Rodna Rech” magazine, the “Struma” almanac. Marchela Sulitinova`s students (9th class in 2008) won a number of awards for their participation in literature contests- Liuboma Mavrodieva – 2nd award, Stanislava Tzvetkova- 3rd prize for her essay on the topic: “Is there a future for a drug addict”, 3rd award for a story; Mariya Stoyanova won 3rd award for research. In the contest “Are there worthy Bulgarians in my native place”, for their research Mariela Aleksandrova won the 1st award, Mihail Kiupov- the 2nd, Tzvetelina Tzekova – the 3rd. In 2009, Bilyana Zaikova received a honorary diploma; Liubima Mavrodieva won the 2nd award for her essay on the topic:”The Children of the Transition”. In 1997 Krasimira Gesheva, who was a student in a French class in Language school “Akad.L.Stoyanov”, won the first place in the Contest for an essay on the mentioned topic, which was organized in France. She was awarded among 10 000 participants from different European schools. Miroslava Georgieva (10th G) reached the final round of the international contest, organized by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs “France-98- a Cup of a Whole World”. Being one of the five finalists, she won a trip to France. Miroslava also won the 2nd award in the European contest on French the same year. Rumyana Kozareva also performed excellently in this contest and she was awarded at the French Culture Center. Elena Dimtrova and Uiliya Daskalova won one-month scholarship for Germany in 1993. Velichka Zarkova and Mariya Kosturkova won summer scholarship for Germany as a result of their excellent performance in the Olympiad in German in 1999. Our students have achieved extremely high results on the tests in German when applying in German universities, as well on TOEFL and SAT in English, during the different years of language education in our school. Borislava Manova (12th A) was classed 1st on the National Olympiad in English in Veliko Turnovo, in 2008, having in mind that there were only 8 people, who reached the last round of the Olympiad. Since 2008 The Language School in Blagoevgrad has been a representative of one of the most prestigious language exams in England and in Europe as a whole – Trinity College Exam. Those who have successfully passed the exam received a certificate, which serves as a language passport all over Europe. Our students from 8th and 10th grade have already taken this exam successfully. Desislava Turnarova, Ilina Saradinova, Mariya Shopova and Tzvetelin Stoimenov (10th A) took part in the National Olympiad in English in 2009. Language School “Akad,L,Stoyanov” is a representative of Oxford Centre. Since the spring of 2005 the school has been working for German Language Diploma programme at the Conference of the Culture Ministry. This became possible after the visit of the representatives of the German Embassy Mr. Burkhart, which was on the occasion of the excellent performance of Kaloyan Halachev (12th class) at the National Olympiad in German. After the expert visited the German classes in our school, he was quite impressed of the high level the material was presented. Since 2006 the Secondary school has had a license allowing it to have the exam held in the building. Up to now there have been 42 students who have received a language diploma for C1 level of the Unified European Frame. The first students to have DCD diploma are Elitza Stambolova, Petur Mavrodiev, Vasil Topalov who graduated from the school in 2004. The relation between the students of our school has remained strong even after their graduation. Thanks to this relation, in 2008 Kaloyan Halachev, already a student in Germany, succeeded in building up an excellent reputation of our school as a coordinator of youth camps. With his help we received an invitation to participate in Güntersberge, which gave 12 students from 8th grade with their class teachers Rositza Slavova and Radka Todorova, the opportunity to participate in the international camp in Germany with motto: “The Adventure in Europe for the Children of the World”. During the 12 days in the camp our students from the 8th grade had the opportunity to show their language skills, sports potential, as well as to show our folklore through singing and dancing. Evgeniya Petrova (8th B) has won the first place in the 7th national contest for the ecological project “Sreburna”.
